Rustic Makeover Series :: Budget-Friendly Pantry

Hey guys! I'm so excited to share with you guys Episode 3 of our Rustic Makeover Series on my YouTube Channel! Today, we are making over my friends pantry! I wanted to make the space functional, especially because it's a space everyone in the home uses daily! - While also making it look peaceful & beautiful, which definitely encourages you to cook & make good choices when opening that pantry door! I love how it turned out, and I can't wait to show you!

CLEAN UP & MAKE A PLAN!

A quick pick-up & declutter gives you a clean slate & a fresh mind to start your makeover! In pantry makeovers, I like to pull EVERYTHING out onto the counters. This way, I can go through expired items, multiples, or unopened items. This helped the cleaning & decluttering process go so much smoother, because we knew exactly what went where!

I love to use clear, airtight bins! This way I can see exactly what I have, or how much I need. When I take food out of their original containers and add them into a clear, airtight bin, I always make sure to only use it for items I ALWAYS have on hand :: flour, noodles, rice, etc. Then, with dry erase marker, I'll write the expiration date, and also cut out the instructions + tape them on the back of the bins!

START SMALL & TAKE YOUR TIME!

Focus on one section at a time. A large area can be so overwhelming if you're trying to take it on all at once! Don't feel rushed to make the space look great. Makeovers usually take me weeks to plan out everything I want. Make sure you find things you LOVE & are INSPIRED by!

During this makeover, I took on the tedious task to redo the spices in the spice cabinet! While this did take a long time, I'm SO happy with how it turned out. The space looks so much cleaner & organized. The spices are much more accessible, which is so important when cooking!

CUSTOMIZE AFFORDABLE PIECES

In today's video, I shared my favorite airtight containers! These were found at Walmart, and are significantly cheaper than the name brand! They keep your food fresh, and make your pantry look cohesive and clean. When on a budget, make sure to shop around before you buy, to make sure you're getting the best deal!

We also used an over-the-door organizer in the pantry makeover! While this can be hung over the door, it can also be anchored into the wall. This is another GREAT way to maximize your pantry storage! We were able to fit so much more in the pantry now that we used the can organizer on the door.

ADD YOUR OWN TOUCH + DIYS

DIY pantry labels

Make your OWN custom pantry labels! When I was searching for pre-made labels, I really struggled to find a price I was comfortable with! I decided to DIY my own labels -- using grocery store tags and my circuit machine! It's also cheaper (& more custom) to order labels off Etsy -- so make sure you do your research before you buy, in order to stay on budget!

BE FLEXIBLE & ALLOW HICCUPS!

Sometimes what we envision just doesn't turn out! I hardly ever have a makeover without some type of hiccup! Having an open mind & looking at several options will help you find the best set up for you!

The best thing about using bins in a pantry makeover, is it's NEVER permanent! It can always be changed up depending on your family's growing needs. When I start a makeover, I plan it for the family's current needs. I usually make a kids bin, which is down low, for the kids to grab their own snacks. Treats or "non-kid" foods, are held up high & out of reach.
